Radio Sursangam began in 2001 as an SCMO radio station in Calgary, created to serve the growing South Asian community with local in-language programming at a time when such services were very limited. What started as a small, community-driven initiative has grown into one of Calgary’s longest-running ethnic media platforms.

Over the past two decades, Radio Sursangam has provided 24/7 programming in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and Gujarati, including talk shows, news, music, and community content. To better serve our audience, we distributed over 30,000 SCMO receivers and later expanded into print media with Punjabi National, as well as digital platforms including online radio and social media.

In 2011, we applied for a commercial ethnic radio licence in Calgary and, although unsuccessful, continued to grow and adapt. In 2021, we expanded further through brokered programming on Fairchild Radio 94.7 FM, while also transitioning our SCMO service to online streaming in 2022 to better reach our audience.

Today, Radio Sursangam remains committed to serving Calgary’s diverse South Asian community through accessible, culturally relevant programming and continues to grow across digital and broadcast platforms
